African American Artist OrnamentWe are so proud of our great collection of ethnic ornaments and we are adding more great ornaments to Ornaments.com every day.  This reflects the fact that over 322 million people from virtually every nation and ethnic group live in America today. Other major ethnic groups include Hispanic, Asian, Eastern European, and Native Americans. Within these ancestry and ethnic groups are many cultures and lifestyles and different ways of practicing religion. The United States of America has truly become a beautiful multi-cultural mosaic.  We try to reflect that diversity through the variety of ethnic ornaments offered on Ornaments.com, including a large selection of African American ornaments.

Ethnic Ornaments

As so perfectly said by Catherine Pulsifer “We are all different, which is great because we are all unique. Without diversity, life would be very boring.”  With ethnic ornaments for almost every occupation, sport and activity, you’ll never be bored with any of our ornaments.  We have the nicest ever ethnic ornaments at https://www.ornaments.com/ethnic-ornaments .

Diversity at Work

Personalized Ethnic Businessman OrnamentBusinesses can harness many benefits from working with individuals with different ideas, education, attributes and experiences.  Incorporating these benefits makes us a more creative and hard working society. As we hear so often, “when one of us succeeds, we all succeed” and “we are only as strong as our weakest link.” It benefits all of us to work together to achieve educational and prosperity goals. Everyone wants to be treated fairly and with respect. We are so fortunate to live in this diverse culture with so many opportunities to broaden our way of thinking and to be able to listen to people that have fresh ideas.

Businesses as well as communities have learned that they can use the wide range of attributes to strengthen their communities and their company’s bottom line. It makes good sense for businesses as well as for other organizations to celebrate the distinctions that make us each unique. If we use this to our advantage, we will learn that diversity is key in growing a strong economy and communities that will be built to last. We can use the matchless talents of all individuals to reach our full potential globally as well as in the USA.

Respecting diversity will help the United States become more competitive in the global market, and teach us to use the unique talents that each us of can bring to the table. According to the results of the 2010 U.S. Census, by 2050 there should be no racial or ethnic majority in the United States. We can work on a daily basis to embrace, learn, and grow in our ever changing communities and in our business relationships, while respecting others’ creeds and religions and lifestyles.

Diversity at School

Personalized African American Teacher OrnamentEducation is key for change and improving the lives of everyone. Children can be taught to appreciate diversity and to learn from our differences. When we work together as a community and in businesses, we will all learn to respect and value the differences in each of us, and learn that those differences will improve and enhance our way of life. It’s important that we all help to harness the talents of all Americans. Then, we are in a position to help others. As communities and businesses continue to grow daily, we can encourage places of business, churches, local governments and schools to respect and honor the differences between us.  Through education, we will discover that maybe we are not that different from each other after all.

A Few Notes on Christmas…

William Shakespeare once wrote “If music be the food of love, play on.” Well, here at Ornaments.com we think he was on to something.

BR-1174242-music-color-ornamentMusic is one of the most amazing and magical facets of the entire human experience. It can stir our souls, encourage us, empower us, and unlock emotions and memories like nothing else can. And the diligence, patience and perseverance required to learn—not to mention MASTER—an instrument is nothing short of inspirational. The way a seed of talent is nurtured through seemingly endless hours of practice to eventually develop into full bloom is definitely a noteworthy accomplishment.

Personalized Piano Player OrnamentThus, a love for music and all things musical—the dedication of the musicians, the instruments and the images of notes and colors that seem to dance about in our mind’s eye—has led us to bring yet another category of ornaments into our ever-growing collection; Music Ornaments.

History of Christmas Ornaments

The Origin of Ornaments

People everywhere love ornaments! The dazzling colors, sparkling finishes, and intricate details delight and fascinate young and old. No less fascinating is the back story about how all of these bangles, baubles and miniature beauties came to be such an integral part of the holiday landscape.

Traditional Christmas Tree - Handcrafted Brass Ornament

The first known Christmas ornaments were bright red apples, which is likely the original source of the red and green Christmas color connection still widely recognized today. Although somewhat speculative, it is commonly believed that apples were used as ornaments because of their relation to the winter solstice and its celebrations. Food was scarce during the harsh winter months, and stored up apples (which were easier to grow and store than many other fruits) played a big role in the feasts that celebrated the solstice, when farmers could begin to look forward to the next planting season.

Angels with Wreaths - Handcrafted Brass OrnamentAfter that first original Christmas tree with its shiny red apple ornaments, changes were introduced that would ultimately usher in centuries of transformation. Initially the lineup of ornaments was expanded to include nuts, cheeses and candles. Inspired by the way the candles reflected in the shiny apples, crafty innovators began gilding the apples and nuts with gold and silver, catering specifically to the elite.

As gilded ornaments increased in popularity, the selection of items used as ornaments also began to include small toys and sweets. Although the exact date is unknown, German craftsmen began making hollow clay molds of the toys, fruit and sweets that adorned the Christmas tree and used them to make blown glass replicas. Not long after, again inspired by the dancing reflections of the candlelight, they introduced silvering into the glass, and began hand-painting the silvery glass ornaments.

Contemporary Christmas Tree - Handcrafted Brass OrnamentThe selection of shapes grew over the years, but the European process of making hand-blown silvered glass remained the standard in ornament creation for many years. It wasn’t until the 1800’s that the creation of Christmas ornaments would come into its own as a unique art form, and begin to gain world-wide popularity.

Since the “ornament renaissance” of the 1800’s, a variety of exquisite ornament makers have gained both popularity and reputation for their amazing craftsmanship, and continued to broaden the scope of ornament creation and selection, and the variety of materials used to make them.

Fast forward to 2014…
